Unbreakable
Unbreakable, O Lord,
Is the love
That binds me to You:
Like a diamond,
It breaks the hammer that strikes it.
My heart goes into You
As the polish goes into the gold.
As the lotus lives in its water,
I live in You.
Like the bird
That gazes all night
At the passing moon,
I have lost myself dwelling in You.
O my Beloved Return.
- Mirabai
Unbreakable talks about a speaker whos loves their Lord so much nothing can break them apart. The speaker identity is within their Lord. The speakers decisions are chosen within their Lords guidelines. The line “Like a diamond,It breaks the hammer that strikes it.” is a great example of figurative language. The lines 4&5 show how their love is strong like a diamond, instead of someone (the hammer) breaking the diamond the hammer breaks. The line “ As the lotus lives in its water,I live in You.” is another great example of figurative language. In lines 8&9 talk about how they need their lord in order to survive like the lotus needs the water to survive. The tone of this poem is a trusting tone. The mainly talks about how the trust between them and there Lord is so strong nothing can come between them. The speaker shows their lord as their lifeline or the reason why they live. The theme is “ No matter what obstacles comes between us I will keep my trust in you.”
When Mirabai was only three years old gave a doll of Sri Krishna to her father. Mira had become deeply in love with this depiction of Lord Krishna. Mira’s father arranged for her to be married to Prince Bhoj Raj,they were an influential Hindu family and the marriage significantly elevated Mira’s social position. She was very obedient when serving her husband , but in the evening she would spend her time in devotion and singing to her beloved Sri Krishna. Her poetry expresses the longing and seeking of her soul for union with Sri Krishna.
Everything you stated was very well said. On the other side I feel a certain way about the unbreakable love. I think that the love for the lord is something that the author heavily relies on and sometimes you cant rely on something without holding yourself up. He says "I have lost myself dwelling in you", the way that he "lost himself" is in my opinion a cry for help from the lord himself. Overall you made very good points in my opinion.
